The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two notorious kidnapping kingpins, including a suspect recently seen flaunting firearms in a viral video, during a covert operation in Kwara State.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Usman, also known as Siddi, and Shehu Mohammadu, alias Gide, were intercepted along the Komen–Masallaci axis of Kaiama Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are members of a violent banditry and kidnapping syndicate operating across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and Kwara states.
Okay News reports that officers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition, ₦500,000 believed to be unspent ransom money, and a new Honda Ace motorcycle allegedly bought with proceeds of crime.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism and assured Nigerians that efforts to dismantle criminal networks nationwide would continue. The police also urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information as investigations into the wider gang progress.
