The Nigeria Police Force has announced a temporary halt to its planned crackdown on vehicles with tinted glass, which was initially set to commence on January 2, 2026. The suspension was announced in a statement made available to Okay News by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on 1st January 2026. It is a direct response to a legal intervention that challenges the resumption of the permit enforcement policy.

The High Court issued an interim order on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, effectively blocking the police from implementing the policy. The court directive requires the force to maintain the status quo until the substantive legal arguments are heard or the order is officially vacated.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to the rule of law by pausing all enforcement activities nationwide.

While the police have entered an appearance in court and applied to have the order lifted, the case has been adjourned until January 20, 2026. The public has been advised to await further guidance pending the court’s final determination of the security policy.
