Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the chief executive of Rivers State in southern Nigeria’s oil producing Niger Delta region, has restated his determination to push his administration forward and recover what he described as lost ground, insisting that he possesses the resilience to fulfill the mandate given to him by the people of the state.

The governor made this declaration on Friday, January 2, 2026, while swearing in five newly appointed Special Advisers at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, Nigeria. The ceremony formed part of efforts by the administration to reinforce its governing structure amid recent political and administrative developments.

Okay News reports that the five Special Advisers sworn in are Eloka Tasie Amadi, Professor Peter Medee, Emmanuel Frank Fubara, Victor Ekaro, and Darlington Orji, all of whom have previously worked with the governor in various capacities.

Speaking during the event, Governor Fubara urged the appointees to work together as a team and remain committed to the vision of his administration, stressing that governance must be people focused and result driven. He explained that the new appointments were designed to strengthen teamwork and ensure that government operations continue smoothly.

“So what we are doing this afternoon is bringing in some persons on board to ensure that the wheels of governance continue to roll smoothly in our state,” the governor said.

He further noted that the advisers were selected because of their familiarity with the philosophy and direction of his administration, pointing out that they were not new entrants into the system.

“I believe that these appointees are not new faces. They have been with us, they have worked with us. They understand the philosophy of this administration and it will not be a problem following and ensuring that our goals are achieved,” he stated.

Governor Fubara emphasized that effective governance requires collective effort, discipline, and a sense of shared responsibility, warning the new advisers against complacency in the discharge of their duties.

“So my charge is not much because you already know what we have come to do. It is not pleasure, it is work. And every one of you here that has been assigned some responsibility in time past has always proven yourselves. I am very sure that this time around it will not be different,” he added.

The governor also stressed that the appointments were not ceremonial, but an opportunity for the advisers to contribute meaningfully to governance and service delivery across the state.

“It is a rare opportunity. Do not let us down. We will start to work for Rivers people. Our social agreement with Rivers people is to work. And that work, it is what we have come to do,” he said.

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s focus on purposeful leadership and effective service delivery, expressing confidence that the new advisers would work as a united team to implement government policies and programs for the benefit of Rivers State residents.

The swearing in came a day after the governor approved the appointment of the five Special Advisers, including two former commissioners who previously served under his administration. The development followed closely after a minor cabinet reshuffle carried out less than seventy two hours earlier, which saw Barrister Christopher Green, formerly Commissioner for Sports, redeployed to the Rivers State Ministry of Justice as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
