James Cameron has once again dominated the global cinema landscape as his latest film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, officially surpassed the $1 billion mark in ticket sales.
The milestone was achieved just 18 days after its release, making it Cameron’s fourth film to join the elite billion-dollar club alongside Titanic, Avatar, and Avatar: The Way of Water.
Okay News gathered that the third installment of the sci-fi franchise has earned $306 million in the United States and $777.1 million from international markets. Major contributions to the film’s success came from China, France, and Germany, where audiences have turned out in large numbers despite what some critics described as a “blockbuster weariness” throughout 2025.
The film is only one of three Hollywood releases from 2025 to reach this financial benchmark, following the success of Zootopia 2 and Lilo & Stitch. While the movie reached the billion-dollar milestone slightly slower than its predecessor, The Way of Water, which hit the mark in 14 days, industry experts believe its current trajectory remains exceptionally strong.
Director James Cameron has hinted that the continued financial success of the franchise is critical for the future of the series. He previously stated that if this installment performs well, fourth and fifth chapters are already planned; however, he joked that if interest fades, he might simply hold a press conference to reveal how the story was supposed to end.
