United States President Donald Trump has announced that Venezuela will restrict its foreign purchases to American-made products using the proceeds from a newly brokered oil deal between the two nations.
In a statement released on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump confirmed that the agreement effectively positions the U.S. as Venezuela’s “principal partner.”
Okay News reports that the funds generated from the oil sales will be directed specifically toward procuring American agricultural goods, medicines, and medical devices.
Additionally, the deal includes the purchase of equipment essential for rehabilitating Venezuela’s dilapidated electric grid and energy facilities. Trump described the commitment as a “wise choice” that would deliver significant benefits to the people of both the United States and Venezuela.
This development follows recent moves by the US administration to secure Venezuelan oil assets after the removal of Nicolás Maduro.
By tying oil revenues directly to the purchase of US exports, the administration says it aims to simultaneously boost American industry while overseeing the reconstruction of Venezuela’s critical infrastructure.
