Heavy traffic congestion gripped the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning after a large truck fell and blocked one lane near the Ogere Bridge, Nigeria’s Ogun State. The blockage affected motorists traveling towards Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as nearby towns including Saapade and Alapako.
Okay News reports that motorists who attempted to divert to the remaining lane created additional congestion, causing severe delays for commuters heading towards Lagos, Mowe, Ibafo, and other parts of the expressway corridor.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred late on Friday evening, leaving a significant number of travelers stranded overnight. “It was chaotic. Some drivers had to wait for hours before any movement was possible,” one commuter explained.
Officials from the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were quickly deployed to the scene. According to some officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, the accident was attributed to a mechanical failure on the truck, and efforts were ongoing to clear one lane to restore traffic flow.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes until the expressway is fully cleared. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full cause of the accident.
