Liam Rosenior’s tenure as Chelsea head coach got off to a flying start as the Blues cruised to a convincing 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

In his first game since taking charge on Tuesday, Rosenior saw his side dominate proceedings at The Valley, converting overwhelming possession into a glut of goals.

Okay News reports that despite Chelsea enjoying 78% possession in the first half, they had to wait until deep into stoppage time to break the deadlock. Defender Jorrel Hato smashed home a powerful opener in the 49th minute to calm any nerves heading into the break. The floodgates opened after the restart, with Tosin heading in a second just five minutes into the second half.

Although former Chelsea academy prospect Miles Leaburn briefly gave the home crowd hope by pulling one back in the 57th minute, the Blues responded swiftly. Marc Guiu restored the two-goal cushion moments later, firing in a rebound after Alejandro Garnacho’s effort was saved. The visitors added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, with substitute Pedro Neto striking in the 91st minute and Enzo Fernandez converting a penalty shortly after to seal a emphatic win.

The victory serves as a significant confidence booster ahead of Rosenior’s first home game—a high-stakes League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal on Wednesday.
