Tunde-Ogunsakin

The Nigerian presidency has ordered the immediate redeployment of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin, out of Rivers State for allegedly failing to dance to the tune of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Premium Times reliably gathered.

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, had on Thursday, April 9, deployed Inspectors General of Police to 16 states for the supervision of elections in the states likely to be volatile on Saturday.

Ogunsakin, a former Police commissioner in Rivers was directed by the IG to leave his post in Calabar where he was meant to supervise elections and return to Rivers to take charge of Police affairs for the polls.

It was reported that on his arrival in Port Harcourt on Friday, April 10, Ogunsakin ordered investigations into reports that PDP supporters were thumb-printing ballot papers in some locations in the city.

“He also ordered that some thugs being positioned to foment trouble be restrained,” a source in Rivers Police command told Premium Times.

Sources say the AIG rejected all efforts by the presidency and the PDP to get him to work for the party’s candidate, Nyesom Wike, in the election.

“The presidency suspects Ogunsakin has sympathy for Amaechi, and has directed the IGP to send him out of the state with immediate effect. I’m sure he should be on his way to Calabar by now,” a presidency source said.

Ogunsakin’s redeployment was confirmed by a top police officer at the Rivers Police Command. The AIG was said to have hurriedly left Port Harcourt this morning, April 11, on the presidency’s order.
