Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana has condemned the recent sack of ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba.

Falana further stated that Abba’s dismissal is ‘null and void’ because it is ‘illegal and unconstitutional.’

“It is a contravention of section 216 (2) of the 1999 constitution, which states that ‘before removing the IG form office, the President shall consult the Nigeria Police Council,” Falana said.

“Since the council, whose members include the 36 State Governors, was not consulted, Mr. Abba’s sack is null and void. It should be rescinded forthwith,” he added.

Abba was sacked on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, and immediately replaced with new IGP, Solomon Arase.
