Governor-Ibrahim-Dankwambo

The defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State in the April 11 governorship election, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, has challenged the re-election of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of the People’s Democratic Party.

Yahaya’s counsel, Niyi Idowu, submitted his client’s petition on Saturday, May 2, to the Election Petition Tribunal in Gombe.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the submission of the petition, Yahaya said his decision to go to the tribunal is to seek for justice.

“APC won the election but was denied victory by some elements.

“We brought the case to the tribunal to reclaim the mandate given to us by the people of the state,” he said.

Also speaking, Barr Idowu, counsel to Yahaya, said the submission of the petition is in fulfillment of the requirements of the law and the electoral process, which granted aggrieved parties, the right to present their grievances rather than taking the laws into their hands.

“It is a pointer; it is also a direction to the followers that you can only achieve success by going through the due process.

“This is what Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya has just done; the battle has just started,” he said.
