Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger says his administration has changed the infrastructure landscape of the state since he assumed office eight years ago.
Aliyu stated this on Thursday at the inauguration of the Shiroro Bridge in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
“It is delightful to note that during the period God has given us to serve Nigerlites, we have changed the infrastructure landscape of our state by dualising and constructing many township roads”, he said.
The governor said successive administrations had attempted to construct the bridge with little or no success for over 40 years.
“The Shiroro Bridge is one of the most outstanding flagship projects‎ we have executed.
“This is because not only does it have direct impact on the socio-economic‎ lives of the people, but it is a dream come true for the inhabitants who had given up after 40 years of the waiting game.
“We have also facilitated and constructed over 6,000 houses across the state, including Talba and M. I. Wushishi housing estates in Minna.
“We have also established a new university of education to produce quality teachers for our schools in the northern states and other parts of the country”, he said.
Aliyu, who noted that his administration may not have achieved all that it conceived, argued that “we are leaving the stage a lot better than we met it in 2007”.
The governor urged the incoming government to take the state to greater heights, saying his administration had set the minimum standard for service delivery.
NAN reports that the inauguration of the bridge was done by Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa. (NAN)
