Egypt’s Ex-President, Mohamed Morsy Sentenced To Death For Role In Prison Break

Report says his name will be passed to the highest legal authority in Egypt to confirm the death sentence.

A Cairo court has sentenced ousted ex-President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsy, to death for his involvement in jail break in 2011.

Morsy’s death penalty was announced on Saturday, May 16.

Report says his name; alongside over 100 other defendants will be passed to the highest legal authority in Egypt to confirm the death sentence on June 2.

Morsy is the first democratically-elected President of Egypt. He was elected in June 2012, and overthrown by a military coup in July 2013.

The death sentence can be appealed.
