Corruption Case Against Me Is Related To My 2019 Presidential Ambition – Sule Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has attributed his incarceration to a political witch-hunt against his 2019 presidential ambition.

A Federal High Court in Kano on Thursday, ordered that Lamido, his two sons and another accused person be remanded in prison custody till September 28 following a 28-court charge for corruption and receiving financial kickbacks to the tune of N1.35 billion.

The presiding judge in the case, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that the suspects be remanded in Kano Prison, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stated that it did not have adequate facilities to cater for the suspects.

Lamido in an interview with Sunday Vanguard through his media aide, Umar Kyari, drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the attempt being made by those he called “my political enemies” to silence him using the instrumentality of the EFCC.
The former governor pointed out that there was a grand design to have him locked up in prison for a long time under the guise of money laundering and sundry charges so as to pave the way for his political enemies to have their way.
Many of Lamido’s supporters have reportedly relocated to the Kano Central Prison where they kept vigil over him and his two sons.

Lamido is said to have been overwhelmed by the large number of friends and well-wishers who thronged the prison to show solidarity with him and his two sons, and even shed tears of joy.

Sunday Vanguard learnt last night that Lamido and sons were likely to be admitted to bail tomorrow (Monday) as a vacation judge was most likely to hear their bail application on that day.
