An explosion has occurred at the Central market in the Gombe State capital, emerging reports reveal.

The blast said to have occurred at about 5pm on Thursday, July 16, 2015

The market is the largest in the state and was said to have been crowded by residents who were shopping in preparation for the Sallah festivities.

“They planted bombs in a vehicle and another one in a very busy section of the market,” a resident told The Cable.

“The market is one of the biggest in the state and the casualty is certainly going to be high because people were preparing for tomorrow’s Sallah,” he added.

The explosion, which is believed to be the work of Boko Haram, is yet to be confirmed by relevant security agencies in the state.
