A Nigerian police sergeant, Sergeant Godwin Osayi has been promoted to the rank of Inspector for making bullet-proof vest from local materials in Bauchi.
The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, ordered his promotion when he addressed the Police/Public Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the state yesterday.
Arase also ordered the promotion of nine policemen, led by Corporal Bala Mohammed, who mounted a Guard of Honour, for their professionalism.
He said modern policing was no longer possible without assistance from members of the public and that the police could not afford to be everywhere without the help of the public.
He also enjoined them to shun bribery and unnecessary detention of defaulters.
