A 72-year-old landlady, Kehinde Alayo, was on Thursday arraigned by the police from Shagamu Road Division for permanently deforming her tenant’s leg.

The prosecution, led by Police Corporal Kemi Adeniran, said “Alayo and one other person now at large on July 14, 2012 between 6am and 6pm at 4, Jasper Hameed Street, Aga, Ikorodu, conspired to wound Mr. Hammed Ajibola thereby committing a felony punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.”

The defendant was further alleged to have, at the same time and place, broken the right ankle of Mr. Ajibola, which caused him permanent deformity, an offence punishable under Section 243 of the same laws.

If convicted under the section, Alayo is liable to seven years imprisonment.

The defendant, who was led to courtroom by the Investigative Police Officer, Corporal Adeya Isaac, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her.

The magistrate, Mrs. A. Oshodi-Makanju, considered the defendant’s age and granted her bail on self recognition.

The matter was adjourned to September 2 for hearing.
