The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has said God’s grace has kept Nigeria united.

According to him, if not for God’s intervention, Nigeria would have experienced another civil war, The Punch reports.

Speaking at the national headquarters of the church in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, at a special prayer programme for the country in commemoration of its 55th independence anniversary, the cleric said Nigeria has been free for 55 years, but many of its citizens are not free.

If not for God’s intervention, Nigeria would have been in another civil war. Without His intervention in this land, we would not be experiencing peace. We should keep praying for His peace to reign,”

he said.

Pastor Adeboye urged Nigerians to not stop praying for the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration so that Nigeria will be celebrated among the nations of the world in the next year.

Also speaking, the special assistant to Adeboye on administration and personnel matters, Funso Odesola said the country has every reason to celebrate because though we might not be where we want to be, we are definitely not where we used be.

Last Thursday, Nigeria celebrated 55 years of independence from British rule. People had various things to say about celebrating the event. Some were of the opinion that there was nothing worth celebrating.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state told the people of the state to enjoy their independence day holiday at home as there was nothing to celebrate about it. According to him, there was no sense in coming to march at the stadium when the people are hungry.

The former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, speaking on the occasion of Nigeria’s Indepenednce Day said the country was not doing badly.
