The Osun State Government has appointed Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife, a foremost traditional ruler in Yorubaland, South Western Nigeria.

The announcement was made in the early hours of Monday through a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti.

In the three paragraph statement, the government said, “The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, has approved the appointment of a new Ooni of Ife.

“He is Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of Girsi Ruling House of Ile-Ife, State of Osun.

“This choice follows the completion of the due process by the kingmakers and the communication of their decision to Government.”

Ogunwusi was selected from 21 candidates presented by the Giesi ruling house.

The former Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade died at a London clinic on July 28.

There had been controversy over who would succeed him since the death of the former Ooni.
