Mama HID was buried in a grave beside that of her long deceased husband and political icon, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The burial on Wednesday marked the climax of a series of funeral activities that took place in Ogun and Oyo states.

Mama HID would have clocked 100 years today had she lived to see the day. She was born November 25, 1915.

Born into nobility, HID’s journey through existence from November 25, 1915 to September 19, 2015 has every trapping of aristocracy, privilege and finesse of the well—heeled but at the same time, her individual exertions hold many lessons for everyone, be they high or low.

HID, during her years on earth walked the paths of the academia, business, nationalism, politics, culture, religion and virtually every other facet of life that defines all-round fulfillment.

She was generally seen and regarded as the matriarch of the Awolowo family, holding forte for her late husband, a former Premier of the old western region, after his death. A number of important dignitaries have paid visits to the Awolowos’ home in Ikenne since her demise.
