Major General Adekunle Shodunke, the new Commanding Officer of the 72 Special Force Battalion in Makurdi, has denied knowledge of the planned relocation of the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering to Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to Channels TV, the Commanding Officer disclosed this when he visited Governor Samuel Ortom at the Government House in Makurdi, to assure the government of the continuous military-civil relations with host communities in the state.

Mr Ortom expressed worry over the reported plan to relocate the institute.

He noted that it has served in the provision of engineering services to Benue State and the North Central region and this has brought development closer to the people of the state.

General Adekunle’s denial of any relocation plans came on the heels of mounting pressure by members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

The Benue lawmakers had moved a motion to petition the federal government and the Military High Command to halt any possible relocation of the school.
