Humans are moved by emotions which makes the words ‘forgive and forget’ easier said than done after going through a bad encounter someone which has refused to leave your mind.

You often hear some people say they ‘forgive but do not forget’ while others say they neither ‘forgive nor forget’. It’s not easy to overlook a person’s wrongdoings and continue like nothing happened, it takes a certain amount of principles to get past the hurt, pain and resentment you feel.

According to an article on Lifehack, when you choose to forgive a person, you are doing yourself a huge favor because you instantly set yourself free and put the past behind you. You are slowly transformed into a better person especially if your heart was badly broken.

Here are 4 ways to forgive and forget easily:

1.  Don’t ignore that the existence of the hurt. Accept that a hurtful incident happened to you which was caused by someone you loved and trusted.

2. Accept that humans are made with flaws, which means neither you nor your offender is perfect.

3. Start to think and say loving words towards this person in your head. You may want to spend some time alone to achieve this. Call out their names and say “I have forgiven you, I refuse to hold on to this pain, I hereby set myself free”. You’ll feel much better if you truly mean it.

4. Instead of pretending like you don’t see them when they come around (maybe you both have mutual friends), it’s okay to smile and say hi. That’ll will put you in a positive light. It doesn’t mean you go back to being friends, it’ll just help you forget the incident faster.
