The Kano state executive committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended party chairman, Umar Doguwa for being loyal to former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, barely 24 hours after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje expressed willingness to reconcile with his predecessor.

Present at the meeting where the chairman was suspended were state party leaders as well as chairman of the state’s 44 local governments.

All participants endorsed the suspension of Mr. Doguwa and pledged loyalty to Governor Ganduje.

Party Secretary, Abbas Sani Abbas, announced the suspension of the chairman, and almost immediately announced the appointment of Abdullahi Abbas, a former commissioner for the environment, as acting chairman.

Mr. Abbas hinted that Mr. Doguwa was being punished for disloyalty, saying he had remained loyal to Mr. Kwankwaso instead of switching allegiance to his successor, Governor Ganduje.

The Chairman of ALGON in Kano, Ibrahim Karaye, said all the 44 local government chairmen endorsed the suspension of the APC Chairman and the appointment of Mr. Abbas as his replacement.

The chairmen stressed their “full loyalty” to Mr. Ganduje, saying they remained ever ready to defend his cause.
