Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), an operator of Joint Venture with the NNPC, says a fire outbreak has occurred at its storage facility in Escravos.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Deji Haastrup, the General Manager (Policy, Government and Public Affairs) in CNL on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to the statement, two employees of contractors of CNL died as a result of the fire incident.
The statement said the fire occurred at about 7.00 a.m at a location away from the production operations area.

It said the fire had been put out and condoled with families of the deceased.

The company said the incident had been reported to all relevant authorities, including the NNPC and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

“We are investigating the cause of the incident. Our priority is the safety of our employees and contractors.

“Chevron wishes to reiterate its commitment to operational excellence, the safety of all personnel, the security of assets and protection of the environment,” it said.
