Nigeria’s Senate President, David Mark, has reportedly made new demands of the country’s military personnel over the lingering war against insurgency.

Speaking on Monday, after decorating his Aide-De- Camp (ADC), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Abel Miri, with the new rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Abuja, he tasked the Nigerian military to go after the sponsors of the Boko Haram terrorist group within and outside the country in a bid to bring them to book, ThisDay reports.

The senate president explained that exposing and capturing Boko Haram sponsors are some of the methods to quickly bring an end to the devilish activities of the terrorists group.

Mark also pleaded with community leaders and citizens to join hands with security operatives in the effort to fish out the financiers of the terrorist group.

He urged the security operatives to deploy their intellect and investigative skills to finding the people behind the menace of insurgency currently ravaging parts of the country.

According to him, the situation at hand demanded the collective efforts of all Nigerians irrespective of their ranks or social status.

“The unabating situation demands extra -ordinary measures to handle. All of us, irrespective of our status, must be alert to our responsibilities. Let us rise as one people faced with a common problem to say no to these harbingers of death. Let’s come together and work hard to free ourselves. All Nigerians must see these terrorists as threats to our existence. Nobody should sit on the fence any more. It is a choice we have to make in chasing these terrorists away or wait to be consumed by them. This is not about politics, religion or ethnicity. It is about our survival as a nation,” Mark said.

The senate president also tasked the new ACP to remember that the rank demands higher responsibility and dedication to the service of his fatherland, noting that as an officer and gentleman, his loyalty is to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mark also advised the new ACP to be fair and firm, devoid of any sentiments and be just to all persons no matter the circumstances.

Speaking also at the occasion, Sarah Ochekpe, the Minister for Water Resources who was among government entourage at the decoration, thanked Mark for giving Miri the platform to distinguish himself in his service to his fatherland.

It would be recalled that the senate president recently charged the Nigerian Armed Forces to do everything within their might to overcome the insecurity challenge posed by the Boko Haram and keep Nigeria united at all times.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, has assured that the Nigerian military would win the war against the Boko Haram sect despite the recent terror attacks being perpetrated by the insurgents in northern Nigeria.
