It-would-have-been-too-disastrous-if-Jonathan-was-re-elected-–-ex-Governor111111-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has said the Commission would not hesitate to investigate former President Goodluck Jonathan if there is ample evidence to that effect.

He told the BBC Hausa Service, monitored in Jos, Plateau state, yesterday, that whoever was reported to the anti-graft agency would be investigated and that “no one will be spared.”

Magu vowed that the commission would do its work without shielding anyone, and “if he (Jonathan) is reported to us and there are facts in the reports, we will surely investigate the matter.”

He said their invitation to anyone suspected of financial crimes is usually preceded by months of verification of the allegations lodged with the EFCC.

On the recovered stolen funds, Magu said the commission had recovered more than $3.1 billion, adding that the actual amount recovered would be made known to Nigerians by May, 29, 2016, as well as names of those the monies were recovered from.

Meanwhile, a former Governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has said he was not scared of being in the custody of the anti-graft agency, expressing his readiness to spend 10 years in its custody to prove his innocence.

Speaking to news men in Kano yesterday, the former education minister under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, said, as a true Muslim, he considered his ordeal as an act of God and that he was not suspecting any foul play from anyone.

He said being in the custody of the EFCC does not mean he was guilty of any charge, stressing that it was normal for one to be investigated under a given circumstance.

The ex-minister further clarified that his invitation by the commission was premised on the claim by one of a top PDP chieftain who was saddled with the task of distributing the N950million campaign funds.

The former minister, who said he never benefitted from the fund, added that the claimant could not prove his case beyond any reasonable doubt.

He said: “My house was thoroughly searched by the operatives of the Commission looking for incriminating evidence; they searched everywhere, and nothing was found to prove my complicity in sharing the campaign fund.”

“As far as I am concerned, I have no skeleton in my cupboard. I always consider my integrity first and God, in his infinite wisdom, has protected me in the face of all conspiracy theories I am grateful to him.”

He thanked his family, friends and loyalists for the unalloyed sympathy during his hours of travails, stressing that a person of his popularity and wider appeal could only be gingered by the goodwill of his ardent admirers and loyalists.
