LASU Promises 8 First Class Graduates Automatic Employment

The authorities of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have promised to offer automatic employment to eight First Class graduating students of the institution.

Their names will be announced at the convocation ceremony scheduled for next Wednesday at the campus.

They are among a total of 17,695 students who would be graduating from various departments at the event.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun during a pre-convocation press conference. He said the eight beneficiary graduands would take the job immediately after completion of their mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps programme.

Appreciating the Visitor to the university and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, for what he described as the massive financial and moral support to the school as well as the staffers for their commitment to duty, the VC disclosed that the university would also inaugurate more than N1 billion projects during the week-long ceremony.

He listed Faculty of Science Building and the university’s radio station as part of them. He also revealed that the new Chancellor for the university, Justice George Oguntade, would be formally installed.

As part of other activities lined up to mark the ceremony, the VC announced that the traditional coconut breaking festival would hold on Monday, May 23, while the convocation lecture with the theme; Empowering African Languages for Socio-Cultural and Economic Development in the 21st Century: A case for our Languages at Home and Abroad, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 24.

The lecture, according to the VC will be delivered by a Professor of Comparative Literature and Director, African Studies Institute, University of Georgia, Athens, Akinloye Ojo.
