Abia Government Warns Against Fake ₦65,000 Otti Birthday Giveaway

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Umuahia, NIGERIA – The Abia State Government has issued a fraud alert warning citizens about a viral online message falsely claiming that Governor Alex Otti is distributing ₦65,000 to members of the public.

The fraudulent message claims the cash transfer is sponsored by the Otti Foundation to celebrate the governor’s 61st birthday, directing targets to click phishing links to claim the money.

Okay News reports that the state government, Governor Otti, and the Alex Otti Foundation have completely distanced themselves from the purported giveaway, stating that no such financial program has been authorized.

Chief Press Secretary Ukoha Njoku Ukoha warned that the domains associated with the message are phishing sites explicitly designed to steal personal identifiers, Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), and account details. The public is strongly advised to ignore the messages and rely only on verified government channels for official announcements.
