Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced that its 2025/2026 academic session will officially commence on Monday, January 5, 2026, with lectures scheduled to begin a week later on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Okay News reports that the university disclosed this in a Special Bulletin dated Friday, January 2, 2026, and issued by the institution’s Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
In the notice, the university said: “The University Management wishes to welcome fresh and returning students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) for the 2025/2026 Academic Session which will begin from Monday, 5th January, 2026.”
The management confirmed that all arrangements had been concluded for the smooth take-off of the session, adding that “registration will commence on Monday, 5th January, 2026 while lectures will begin on Monday, 12th January, 2026 as approved in the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session.”
Okay News reports that the bulletin also addressed accommodation arrangements, with the university stating that “as the registration portal has already been opened, the accommodation portal will be opened on Monday, 5th January, 2026 for students to click for bed spaces.”
On the issue of student financing, ABU advised students who applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) to proceed with payments in order to meet registration deadlines. According to the notice, “students who applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) [are requested] to go ahead and make payment in order to meet the registration deadline, as they will be refunded when the university receives NELFund disbursements.”
The university further clarified that admission screening would continue alongside academic activities. “This is to further inform that the screening of fresh students will still be on as the registration and lectures continue,” the notice stated.
In its concluding remarks, the management extended goodwill to the student community, saying: “Finally, the University Management wishes all students a successful academic session.”
