Abuja, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially commenced the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its upcoming leadership transitions. The political party, which remains an active participant in the democratic process of Nigeria, a country in West Africa, is preparing for a series of internal elections. These include congresses at the Ward, Local Government, and State levels, as well as the overarching National Convention.
Okay News reports that the invitation is open to all interested party members who wish to vie for various elective positions within the organization. This announcement was made public through a notice signed by the National Organising Secretary of the ADC, Pa Idigo. The official notification was distributed via the social media platform X on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
The financial requirements for aspirants vary significantly depending on the office being sought. At the ward level, which represents the smallest administrative unit in Nigeria, the Expression of Interest Form is priced at ₦2,000 (about $1.48). Additional nomination fees include ₦10,000 (about $7.40) for the position of Ward Chairman, ₦5,000 (about $3.70) for Ward Secretary, and ₦3,000 (about $2.22) for other ward-level officers.
For those looking to lead at the Local Government Area (LGA) level, the costs increase. A candidate for the office of Local Government Area Chairman must pay ₦40,000 (about $29.60), while the Local Government Area Secretary form is ₦30,000 (about $22.20). Other positions at this level are set at ₦10,000 (about $7.40) each.
At the state level, the fees are more substantial. The form for the position of State Chairman is ₦500,000 (about $370), while the State Secretary form costs ₦300,000 (about $222). Other state-level officers are required to pay ₦50,000 (about $37). For the high-level National Convention, the party has set a nomination fee of ₦10,000 (about $7.40) per delegate. Each of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas is expected to send one delegate to this national gathering.
The party has also introduced a nomination requirement to ensure grassroots support. Every aspirant must secure a specific number of nominators, each of whom is required to pay a non-refundable fee of ₦50 (about $0.04). Specifically, candidates for the position of Ward Chairman require 10 nominators, while other ward officers need five. At the local government level, chairman aspirants must have 20 nominators spread across the area, while other officers need 10. For the state chairmanship, 50 nominators are required from across the state, ensuring at least one representative from every local government area.
The timeline for this process is strict. According to the official notice: “The sale and submission of the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will close on Friday, 27th March 2026. No late submissions will be accepted. Screening is scheduled for 30th to 31st March 2026. All aspirants are advised to comply strictly with these guidelines and the published guidelines for the congresses.”
