The governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke, has made a bold move to crack down on mining firms operating in the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor has announced the immediate suspension of all mining firms holding licenses in the state.

According to the statement, the operators are required to report to the Committee on Assets Verification and Recovery, which is chaired by Dr. B.T. Salami, with copies of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government. The suspension will remain in force until the ongoing review of the MoUs is completed.

The governor’s decision to suspend the mining firms is part of a broader effort to recover any funds owed to the state.

In his statement, the governor emphasized his resolve to ensure that the state receives all the funds it is owed. He has called on all operators to report to the committee by 12pm on Monday, and has warned that failure to do so will result in severe penalties.
