Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured the Accord Party ticket for the August 8, 2026 Osun State governorship election, emerging as the party’s candidate after winning its primary held on Wednesday in Osogbo.
Okay News reports that Adeleke was the sole aspirant in the contest.
According to results announced by Abdulazeez Salaudeen, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Adeleke received 145 votes out of 150 cast by delegates from the state’s 30 local government areas. Five ballots were declared void.
Salaudeen said the committee followed all required procedures, with agents of the candidate and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present during voting and counting.
“The electoral committee has delivered on its mandate. After voting and counting, witnessed by the agents of the candidate and the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Having the highest number of votes, I declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,” he said.
Adeleke attended the primary alongside his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and several political appointees who were present as the exercise began.
The governor had announced his defection to the Accord Party on Tuesday, confirming that he would seek a second term on the platform of the party.
His victory in Wednesday’s primary now formalises his candidacy as the Accord Party prepares for next year’s election.
