Egypt suffered an unexpected 1-0 defeat against South Africa on Saturday night.

South Africa striker, Thembinkosi Lorch scored the only goal of the match as the host country got knocked out of the 2019 AFCON tournament.

However, Egyptian head coach, Javier Aguirre, and his coaching staff were sacked following their shocking elimination from the tournament.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abou-Rida also announced his resignation.

Abu Reida said:

This decision comes as a moral responsibility although the Football Association did not neglect its duties towards the national squad and offered complete financial and moral support to it.

He also added that he will continue to work as head of the organizing committee of the 2019 AFCON.

This is the second time the Pharaohs have failed to reach the quarter-finals.
