Ademola Lookman has moved to shut down speculation of any rift with fellow Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, insisting that a brief exchange between both players during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign was misinterpreted.
Okay News reports that Lookman addressed the issue after Nigeria’s latest AFCON outing, where he reflected on both his performance and the team’s growing cohesion.
Asked how he was enjoying the tournament, the Atalanta forward expressed satisfaction with the squad’s progress.
“It’s been great, team is improving every single day. I scored goals today,” Lookman said, underscoring what he described as a positive atmosphere within the camp.
When questioned about whether he had spoken with Osimhen following the on-pitch moment that sparked online debate, Lookman dismissed any suggestion of tension.
“No, I haven’t seen him yet,” he said.
Clarifying what actually happened during the match, Lookman played down the exchange as routine communication between teammates.
“Nothing happened. We were just discussing on the pitch, that’s it,” he explained.
Pressed further on whether addressing the incident was necessary for team harmony, the forward appeared puzzled by the attention it had attracted.
“I don’t know what the big issue is,” he added.
Looking ahead, Lookman stressed that Nigeria’s focus remains firmly on the challenges still to come in the tournament, with the Super Eagles eyeing a strong finish.
“The finals of the game is something to look forward. Another big battle awaits us, we need to be ready,” he said.
