Algeria made a strong opening statement at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 3–0 victory over Sudan in their Group E clash at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Morocco.

The North African giants wasted no time asserting control, as captain Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring just two minutes into the match with a calm finish inside the box. Algeria maintained pressure throughout the first half, keeping Sudan pinned back and limiting their attacking opportunities, before heading into the break with a deserved 1–0 lead.

Mahrez doubled Algeria’s advantage in the second half with a moment of trademark skill, weaving past defenders before finding the net from the edge of the area. Substitute Ibrahim Maza sealed the win late on, converting a well-delivered cross in the 85th minute to cap a comprehensive team performance.

The result hands Algeria all three points in their AFCON opener. Sudan will need a quick response in their remaining group matches to keep qualification hopes alive.
