Uganda and Tanzania shared the spoils in a tense 1-1 draw in their AFCON 2025 Group C clash on Saturday night in Rabat, a result that keeps both sides’ qualification hopes alive but leaves little margin for error.
The East African derby came with high stakes, as both teams were seeking their first points of the tournament after opening-day defeats.
Tanzania took the lead in the second half through Simon Msuva, who converted from the penalty spot after a handball decision inside the box. Uganda responded with increased pressure and eventually drew level when substitute Uche Ikpeazu headed home to restore parity, setting up a dramatic final phase to the contest.
The Cranes had a golden chance to snatch all three points late on, but Allan Okello missed a penalty in the 87th minute, firing over the bar.
The draw leaves both Uganda and Tanzania still searching for their first win in Group C, with their final group matches now set to determine whether either side can progress to the knockout stage.
