The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has called on African nations to strengthen cross-border cooperation in combating disease outbreaks across the continent. The regional health agency emphasized the need for coordinated responses to emerging health threats that transcend national boundaries.

The call comes as Africa continues to face recurring public health challenges, including infectious disease outbreaks that spread rapidly across borders. Africa CDC stressed that effective disease surveillance and response require integrated efforts among neighboring countries to prevent and contain epidemics.

The health organization highlighted that many disease outbreaks in Africa are fueled by population movements, trade activities, and shared ecological zones that facilitate pathogen transmission. Strengthening regional collaboration would enable faster detection, reporting, and response to health emergencies before they escalate into continental crises.

Africa CDC noted that cross-border cooperation must include harmonized surveillance systems, joint rapid response teams, and shared laboratory capacities. The agency also emphasized the importance of information sharing and coordinated communication strategies to ensure timely alerts reach all affected jurisdictions.

The organization pointed out that successful disease control depends on countries working together to address gaps in healthcare infrastructure and capacity. Investment in regional health security mechanisms would reduce vulnerability to outbreaks and improve preparedness for future pandemics.

Africa CDC called on member states to prioritize regional health agreements and strengthen existing frameworks for cross-border health cooperation. The agency urged governments to allocate adequate resources for joint disease surveillance and response initiatives that protect populations across shared borders.

The organization reiterated its commitment to supporting African countries in building resilient health systems capable of detecting and responding to disease threats. Africa CDC continues to advocate for enhanced regional collaboration as a cornerstone of effective public health protection on the continent.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention operates as the specialized health agency of the African Union, coordinating continental efforts to strengthen public health systems and respond to disease outbreaks across Africa.
