Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria — A Nigerian cleric known for raising public donations for vulnerable people is facing growing controversy on social media after allegations of sexual misconduct and misuse of charity funds began circulating online.

The cleric, Kayode Amusan, popularly known as Agbala Gabriel, is based in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State in southwestern Nigeria. For several years, he built a strong online following by sharing videos of charitable activities, including prayers for struggling families and appeals for donations to help people facing medical emergencies.

His online presence helped him gain widespread support from Nigerians who believed his ministry was committed to assisting the sick and financially disadvantaged.

However, the reputation he built over the years has recently come under scrutiny after a series of allegations spread across major social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

One of the controversies involves a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffered from a spinal medical condition and whose case attracted public donations for surgery.

Nigerian film actress Foluke Daramola, a figure in the country’s Nollywood film industry, spoke about the situation in a video that later circulated widely online. According to her, she had initially helped raise funds for the woman’s surgery but later distanced herself from the case.

She said, “I initially raised money for the woman’s surgery, which wasn’t enough. But as soon as the family took her to Agbala Gabriel’s care, I withdrew.

“Later, I got to know that Gabriel abandoned them and failed to provide the support of a good accommodation and surgery he promised.”

The daughter of the patient also appeared in the same video, claiming she eventually took her mother away from the cleric because she was concerned about how the situation was being handled.

While that controversy was still spreading online, another allegation surfaced involving the cleric’s alleged relationship with a woman said to have once been a backup singer in his church.

A Nigerian social media commentator known online as Iyalaje Courtroom made the claim during a live broadcast, alleging that the pastor had been involved in mismanagement of donations and inappropriate relationships with women connected to the church.

According to the commentator, one of the women, identified as Bolu, allegedly became pregnant for the cleric and later gave birth to twins.

“She was about 23 when the relationship started and she is now 25,” the online commentator claimed.

“Agbala Gabriel initially denied the pregnancy, but after pressure, he later accepted responsibility and rented a house for the lady and the twins,” she added.

A charity advocate, Princess Adeyinka, also publicly commented on the issue, stating that she was involved when the matter first became known.

She said, “Agbala Gabriel impregnated Bolu and refused to take full responsibility initially. I went to him myself to beg him to take responsibility when I first heard about it, which he denied initially but later took responsibility.”

As the allegations gained momentum on social media, reactions became sharply divided. Some supporters of the cleric pointed to his years of charitable work and community support, while critics called for greater transparency about how donations were handled.

Okay News reports that the controversy has fueled intense debate online, with many Nigerians demanding clarification from the cleric and others defending him against what they describe as unproven accusations.

Responding to the allegations, the cleric denied wrongdoing and said the claims were part of a pattern of attacks against religious leaders who become widely known.

He said, “This is how they try to bring ministers of God down. All ministers who became famous faced this kind of lies. We see men of God like Pastor Adeboye, and other famous pastors being dragged on social media every day. This is just how they do on social media, making false allegations.”

As of Saturday, March 14, 2026, the allegations remain the subject of online debate, and no official investigation or legal action had been publicly confirmed.
