The Attorney General of the Federation’s office has issued a strong rebuttal against claims made by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who alleged that the EFCC chairman and Solicitor General met with governors ahead of their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Ibe, speaking on a national television platform, suggested that these officials engaged in secret meetings with a former and a current governor from Nigeria’s South-South region within 48 hours before their political defection.

In response, the AGF’s office condemned the allegations as “contemptuous” and “false,” urging Nigerians to disregard such misleading reports.

Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Assistant to the President on Communication and Publicity, described the accusations as “from the pit of hell” and dismissed them as nothing more than “a figment of imagination of Mr. Ibe.”

Ogundele stressed, “We know as a fact that the EFCC chairman and the Solicitor General of the Federation never met any serving or former governor as alleged by him.”

He accused Mr. Ibe of attempting to tarnish the credibility of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s anti-corruption campaign, stating, “We appeal to the members of the public to disregard the insinuation as it was a feeble attempt to discredit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration’s fight against corruption.”

The AGF’s office reiterated its unwavering dedication to justice and the rule of law, affirming that the administration will persist in its anti-corruption efforts regardless of political affiliations.
