Aisha Achimugu Denies Wealth Links to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos, Nigeria — Aisha Achimugu, the founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, denied allegations that her personal wealth stems from her association with the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during an interview.

Okay News reports that Aisha Achimugu stated during an appearance on Channels Television that she has operated as an entrepreneur since 2001 and denied that her financial resources originated from political acquaintances.

The denial follows an ongoing legal dispute involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Aisha Achimugu gained public attention in January 2024 after hosting a seven-day 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, which was attended by Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The EFCC subsequently arrested Aisha Achimugu at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on April 29, 2025.

In March 2026, a federal high court in Abuja presided over by judge Emeka Nwite granted a final forfeiture order for $13 million allegedly linked to the firm. Aisha Achimugu noted that her firm has commenced an appeal against the order.

Addressing claims regarding the forfeited assets, Aisha Achimugu said, “My house was raided. Only $50,000 and N13 million belonging to my mom was found in my house and my personal belongings.” The 13 million Naira amount is equivalent to approximately $7,800. She further stated, “I don’t know where Nigeria got the impression that I have $13 million in my house. I’m not a bank. I won’t keep $13 million in my house.”

Regarding her political associations, Aisha Achimugu said, “I have always had access to power and governance. I’m a known Nigerian. I have friends, and I have done well. I have not done anything that will make anyone stay away from me.” She added, “I’m an entrepreneur and business owner. Having to know those who will increase my portfolio is very important to me. It is not about Governor Sanwo-Olu at all.”
