Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria — Supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, staged a solidarity walk to demonstrate support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, tagged “TinubuDatiwa Half a Million Walk 2027,” was led by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and drew participants from various sectors of the state. The walk formed part of a broader mobilisation effort by political support groups seeking to build grassroots backing for the president’s potential re-election bid. Okay News reports that organisers described the exercise as an early campaign-style engagement designed to unify party members and expand outreach.
The programme was coordinated by Kehinde Akinrotoye, a former Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Sports and leader of the TinubuDatiwa Support Group. Addressing participants at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the governor commended the turnout and praised the organisers for what he described as a commendable initiative.
“This is a healthy initiative put together by one of the support groups here in Ondo State in support of the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. It is one of the several activities being organised to mobilise grassroots support ahead of 2027,” he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described himself as a “foremost patron” of the various support groups in the state, noting that his participation demonstrated solidarity with the organisers and commitment to the mobilisation campaign. He said the large turnout, which included government officials, civil servants, artisans, and members of civil society organisations, reflected widespread interest in the initiative.
He expressed optimism that sustained mobilisation efforts would translate into strong electoral support. “By the grace of God, come January 2027, Ondo State will deliver nothing less than one million votes for President Bola Tinubu. I am delighted by the massive turnout. People came out voluntarily in the early hours of the day, which also highlights the importance they attach to healthy living. Walking and exercise are essential for physical fitness, mental alertness and overall well-being. Akure is just a coordinating centre. The real work is at the grassroots, the units, wards and local governments. I have advised all coordinators to return to their respective areas and intensify mobilisation efforts,” he said.
Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Henry Omoyofunmi, also spoke at the event, saying the programme indicated readiness among residents to support the policies of the ruling party.
“This shows the serious efforts being put in place by the state for the campaign and re-election of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
In his remarks, Akinrotoye said the walk aimed to galvanise support across all senatorial districts in the state. “The essence of this walk is to mobilise support for our President across the 18 local governments and the three senatorial districts of Ondo State. This Half a Million Man Walk is a testament to the trust and confidence we have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda. We are committed to this journey, and together, we will succeed,” he said.
The event highlighted early political mobilisation efforts in Ondo State as stakeholders begin positioning ahead of Nigeria’s next general election cycle.
