Juba, SOUTH SUDAN — A small passenger aircraft operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd crashed on Monday morning, killing all 14 people on board.
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) confirmed that the Cessna 208 Caravan went down approximately 20km southwest of the capital, Juba, while en route from Yei.
The flight, carrying a pilot and 13 passengers, departed Yei at 09:15 local time. Authorities reported losing contact with the aircraft roughly 30 minutes into the short 130km journey.
Okay News reports that the victims include 12 South Sudanese nationals and two Kenyans.
Initial investigations by the SSCAA suggest that “adverse weather conditions,” specifically low visibility, may have played a hige role in the accident. A specialized team has been dispatched to the crash site to conduct a full forensic investigation and recover the remains.
This incident adds to a series of aviation safety concerns in South Sudan, where regional air travel is often hampered by aging infrastructure and unpredictable weather patterns. The SSCAA has vowed to provide a comprehensive report as more details emerge from the site.
