Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, will host a major industry gathering as the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) announces the first-ever Telecoms Industry Compliance Management Forum (CMF).
Okay News reports that the forum is endorsed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and will convene senior government officials, operators, and policy experts on November 25, 2025.
The event, themed Securing the Future: Navigating Compliance and Governance for Improved Quality of Service and Experience in Nigeria’s Digital Landscape, is designed to strengthen industry-wide commitment to corporate governance at a time when Nigeria is implementing sweeping fiscal and regulatory reforms.
According to the organisers, the keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. His presentation titled Tax Compliance and the Business of Service Quality under the 2025 Fiscal Policy Framework will explore how new economic policies will shape telecom operators’ responsibilities in the coming year.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, will deliver the welcome address on Compliance, Governance, and Quality of Experience: Building Trust and Service Excellence in Nigeria’s Digital Economy, setting the tone for deliberations on the sector’s regulatory future.
Other key government officials expected at the forum include Dr Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr Olatunji Bello, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), and Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination.
Speaking ahead of the event, ALTON Chairman Engr. Gbenga Adebayo described the forum as a defining moment for the sector.
In his words, “This Forum represents an industry-first effort to institutionalize compliance as a shared responsibility. It underscores our strong support for the Federal Government’s fiscal reform agenda and our commitment to align with Mr. President’s economic re-engineering and critical systemic reforms.”
Adebayo noted that 2026 will be a pivotal year as new fiscal policies begin to take full effect. He said the gathering will provide clarity for operators navigating Nigeria’s evolving tax and regulatory environment.
He further commended the government, stating, “We commend the Federal Government for the ongoing fiscal and tax reforms under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that these reforms are addressing the long-standing challenge of multiple taxation in the telecoms sector.”
For years, the telecoms industry has faced over 50 different taxes and levies across federal, state, and local levels.
Adebayo highlighted that the emerging tax policy direction reflects a bold and welcome intervention, adding, “It simplifies compliance, promotes equity, and creates a more predictable operating environment for our industry. We sincerely appreciate this decisive effort.”
The CMF will serve as a platform for strengthening trust between telecom operators and government institutions while placing compliance, governance, fiscal responsibility, and customer experience at the center of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Lagos.
