The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos is rallying behind several of its sitting local government chairmen, as party primaries held on Saturday reflected a broader strategy of internal consolidation ahead of the July 12 local government elections.

In Kosofe LGA, Moyosore Ogunlewe, the current chairman, emerged unopposed after other aspirants withdrew from the race to support his re-election bid.

The primary, conducted at the APC secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, showcased a wave of unchallenged victories and minimal internal conflict across key council areas.

Okay.ng reports that Ogunlewe’s unopposed emergence underscores a growing trend within the Lagos APC: maintaining continuity in leadership and rewarding loyalty to ensure electoral preparedness and grassroots cohesion.

A similar pattern played out in Ifako-Ijaiye, where sitting chairman Usman Hamzat also secured the party’s nod, setting the stage for his return bid in July.

Observers say the smooth primary exercise—largely devoid of the usual disputes and factional tensions—signals the party’s intention to avoid pre-election fragmentation that has historically undermined local polls in the state.

Other notable incumbents who clinched APC tickets include Rossini Oluyemisi (Ojokoro), Taiwo Oyekan (Lagos Island), Yusuf Sule (Surulere), Sanusi Ismail (Amuwo-Odofin), and Samsideen Agunbiade (Eti-Osa East), among many others across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.
