Fresh political realignments may be underway as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated talks with Bala Mohammed following indications that he may leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Okay News reports.
APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Abba Kabir Yusuf, held a closed-door meeting with the Bauchi governor, coming shortly after ADC leaders reportedly reached out to him. Mohammed had earlier described the ADC as a “more viable” opposition platform, amid growing dissatisfaction within the PDP.
Speaking on the development, the governor confirmed ongoing consultations, stating: “He has asked them to come to me, to reconnect me with the umbilical cord of the opposition, which I have always been part of.” He also expressed concern over internal issues within his current party, adding, “As a leader of the PDP, I have also observed lingering bitterness, while our party appears headless.”
Mohammed further revealed that reconciliation efforts within the PDP have not yielded results, noting: “We have explored all avenues for reconciliation, but it has not worked, and our members are under intense pressure.” He disclosed that committees have been set up at both national and state levels to review available options, emphasizing that “all possibilities remain open, including the ADC.”
While neither Mohammed nor the APC leadership disclosed details of the meeting, the development signals intensifying political maneuvering ahead of future electoral contests, with potential implications for party alignments in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
