The All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s governing political party, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, demonstrated rare political courage in pursuing far-reaching reforms throughout the year 2025, despite widespread resistance and economic hardship.
The party made this assertion in its end-of-year review of Nigeria’s political and economic trajectory, released on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and signed by Seye Oladejo, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital and one of Africa’s largest metropolitan economies.
Okay News reports that the ruling party described the year 2025 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s modern history, arguing that the country reached a crossroads that demanded decisive leadership rather than political convenience or populist delay.
According to the party, President Tinubu elected to confront entrenched structural problems that had persisted across multiple administrations, rather than postponing difficult decisions for short-term political gain.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chose the difficult path of dismantling decades of economic deceit, fiscal indiscipline and governance cowardice,” the party said.
The All Progressives Congress explained that the reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration were not superficial adjustments but deep structural changes aimed at dismantling long-standing systems of privilege and rent-seeking that had benefited narrow interests while weakening the broader Nigerian economy.
The party expressed concern that some political actors capitalized on the temporary hardships created by the reforms, deliberately framing Nigeria as a failing state in order to score political points.
It described such actions as unpatriotic and harmful to national unity.
“Predictably, resistance followed, but this resistance was not patriotic dissent; it was calculated sabotage.
“A section of the political class chose to weaponise hardship, amplify fear and market Nigeria as a failed state,” it said.
According to the party, the events of 2025 represented more than an economic or security challenge, asserting that Nigeria faced a deeper test of collective loyalty and national commitment.
“What Nigeria faced in 2025 was not merely an economic challenge, but a crisis of patriotism,” it said.
The party further alleged that elements of opposition politics appeared invested in national decline rather than national progress.
“Never in recent history has opposition politics been so openly invested in national collapse,” it stated.
Despite what it described as organized resistance, the party maintained that Nigeria remained stable and functional.
“Yet, in spite of this organised resistance, Nigeria did not collapse,” it added.
The All Progressives Congress pointed to early indicators of recovery across strategic sectors, including infrastructure development, fiscal discipline, and national security operations.
It noted that fiscal leakages were being addressed, investor confidence was gradually improving, and critical infrastructure projects were advancing nationwide.
“The economy began to reorder itself, fiscal leakages were blocked, and investor confidence showed early signs of recovery.
“Critical infrastructure projects advanced, while security interventions intensified across the country,” the party said.
The party concluded by urging Nigerians to support reform efforts, emphasizing discipline, sacrifice, and long-term national interest.
It expressed optimism that Nigeria would ultimately emerge stronger from the reform process.
“Nigeria will emerge stronger because patriotism, though tested, will defeat perfidy,” it said.
