The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its planned reception of Agbu Kefas, governor of Taraba State, citing respect for victims of recent terrorist attacks and abductions across Nigeria.

Okay News reports that the event, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was suspended indefinitely.

In a statement on Tuesday, Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary, said the decision was taken to honour members of the armed forces and civilians who were recently killed in violent attacks.

He added that the party also considered the ongoing trauma of families whose loved ones, especially schoolchildren abducted in Kebbi, remain in captivity.

“We salute the courage and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line in defence of our liberty and security,” Morka said.

“As we mourn the death of our dear compatriots, we pray for the safe return of our innocent students taken from their families by forces of evil.”

Morka noted that the party stands in solidarity with affected families and communities grappling with grief and uncertainty. He did not specify a new date for the reception, but said a future announcement would be made when appropriate.

He reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains fully committed to defeating insurgency and banditry, stressing that those responsible for the attacks will be brought to justice.
