APC’s Abdullahi Umar Ganduje wins Kano governorship election

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of All Progressives Congress (APC) has won his re-election bid in Kano after collation of results was concluded.

Professor B. B Shehu, INEC Returning Officer in the state, declaring the result on Sunday, said Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 45,876 votes while Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 10,239 votes.

He noted that 28 local governments were affected by the rerun poll with a total registered voters of 131,073.

He said out of the figures only 57,777 voters were accredited, adding that the total valid votes during the rerun poll stood at 56,407, rejected votes 1,100 and votes cast 57,507.

However, Shehu explained that in accordance with the provisions of INEC guidelines, after he reads out the figures, he is required to go back and fill in the numbers into the appropriate forms before making a return by declaring a winner.

Furthermore, Shehu announced a prayer break to allow Muslims say their evening prayers.

He said those who need to go for prayers should do so and return at 7:15pm when he hopes the final tally will be ready for an announcement to be made.
