SENATOR Mao Ohuabunwa has said the plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to remove the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu, would end in futility, noting that only the Senate that elected him had the constitutional powers to do so.

Ohuabunwa, who represents Abia North senatorial district, also dismissed the insinuation that there was crisis in the Senate and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, adding that there was no crisis in either the PDP or the Senate.

He warned those stoking the crisis in the National Assembly to have a rethink in the interest of the nation.
According to Ohuabunwa, the interest of the nation should be paramount in the consideration.

He said members of the National Assembly were committed to work hard to make Nigeria better for all, irrespective of tribe or religion.

Meanwhile, Ohuabunwa, whose election is being challenged at the tribunal by the former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, and Chief David Onuoha, has expressed confidence that his mandate would remain intact.

Reacting to statements by Onuoha that he would reclaim his mandate, Ohuabunwa retorted: “Which mandate is he talking about? Is it the one the people have freely given to me.”
He expressed confidence in the ability of the tribunal to deliver justice.

The tribunal has, however, adjourned to Friday, July 3, 2015, to hear motions challenging the competence of the petition brought by the 1st Respondent.
