The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what it described as one of the most transparent and well-organised governorship elections in the history of Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria.
National Chairman of the party, Sly Ezeokenwa, made the remark on Sunday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, while reacting to the victory of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the just-concluded poll.
Okay News reports that INEC declared Soludo, the incumbent governor and candidate of APGA, winner of the November 8 election. The Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edogah Omoregie, announced that Soludo secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes.
Ezeokenwa commended INEC for conducting a free, credible, and peaceful exercise that reflected the true will of Anambra residents. “INEC deserves commendation for ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the people of Anambra State for their peaceful conduct before, during, and after the election. “I thank residents for their exemplary behaviour and for maintaining peace before, during, and after the polls. I also commend the media for their professionalism in reporting the process,” Ezeokenwa added.
The APGA chairman concluded that the successful conduct of the election was a testament to Nigeria’s growing democratic culture and the maturity of the electorate in the state.
