Nigerian writer, Japheth Omojuwa, has raised questions about the handling of suspects by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria.

Through his Instagram page, Omojuwa commented on the EFCC’s usual way of displaying the mug shots and photos of suspects it is trying in court, most of whom are being tried for amounts less than N1 billion.

However, in the case of Francis Uju Adoms, who is being tried for N41 billion or more, Omojuwa questioned why Adoms’ matter is not being made public through the EFCC’s social media pages, website or other media.

According to Omojuwa, information on the matter is only known through anonymous sources.

“The question is, what did Adoms have to do to keep his matter off EFCC’s social media pages, website, and other media?” he asked.

“Are some EFCC suspects more equal than others?” He added that in the absence of information, questions and suspicions become fair reactions.

Omojuwa called on the EFCC to come out and let the victims know that the alleged criminal is in their custody, as this would help to repose trust in the commission’s vision.

“The earlier the EFCC comes out, the better for the trust it needs reposed in its vision,” he said.
